Types of Volunteering

SHORT-TERM VOLUNTEERING
Short-Term Programs are perfect for people who only have little time for volunteering or don’t have the resources for a long-term stay but want to do something beyond just traveling. It is an interesting and meaningful way to travel with purpose and spend 2-3 weeks in a foreign environment.
A short orientation session is given to the volunteers before the project begins to help them get acquainted with the project aims, the host organization, the local customs and culture.

Participating in a short term program has many benefits. Working and living together with other volunteers from around the world provides an excellent opportunity to make many new friends, learn about unknown places and cultures, and gain new skills and experience. In addition, your time, energy, and enthusiasm can make a difference in areas where help is really needed. The unique environment in a workcamp can reveal new sides of your character and personality and you can learn so much about yourself as well. You will find out that you are capable of doing things that you’ve never tried before. Besides all this, the experience you gain can help develop your career and also build your resume.

LONG-TERM VOLUNTEERING

You can join our Middle Term or Long Term programs depending on the time you can spare. A middle term project usually lasts from 3 to 6 months, and a long term project is 6 months to a year, or longer. It’s a non-formal international learning experience which develops a volunteer’s sensitivity towards social and cultural differences, and also builds self-confidence and your problem solving ability.

Middle and long-term volunteering is individual rather than in groups. Often there are 2-3 volunteers working on a certain project. Note that it is not a workcamp environment and if there is a group, it will be smaller and the work and the everyday life is not group-oriented. Middle and long term volunteers are immersed in the local culture to a much greater extent allowing them to integrate better with the local community and actually become part of it. Over time volunteers can learn the local language, make friends and better understand the needs and problems of the locals. This enables them to take a more active role in the running of the project by implementing their own ideas for accomplishment of better outcomes.

We give a short orientation session before you begin your project to help you get acquainted with the project aims, the host organization, the local customs and culture. You can choose between 25 different projects in four different regions in Ghana, like Orphanages, Schools, Microfinance, Environmental Conservation, Agricultural Training & Conservation or Arts. All programs are organized in cooperation with our local partners. You can find the details of every program below
